The Auburn University Young Professionals will host President Christopher B. Roberts on Nov. 30.
Auburn University Young Professionals (AUYP), an Employee Resource Group for Auburn University, aims to provide an opportunity for connection between upper-level administrators and campus leaders with the young professionals employed at the university. Through a series of free one-hour interactive programs, attendees have the chance to hear stories and gain advice from those in influential positions across campus, as well as an opportunity to ask questions. Each series focuses on providing professional development, networking amongst peers and collaboration of resources across Auburn University.
For their next event, AUYP will host President Christopher B. Roberts for an interaction session on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 1-2 p.m. at the Office of Information Technology, Room 103.
"We are honored to have Dr. Roberts join AUYP this month," said Payton Beck, AUYP board member. "Not everyone gets the chance to have uninterrupted time with our university president, and I look forward to sharing this opportunity with my peers."
Roberts began his appointment as Auburn’s 21st president on May 16, 2022. He leads the university’s four divisions, including Auburn’s main campus with its more than 31,000 students and 5,500 faculty and staff, as well as Auburn University at Montgomery, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, a joint enterprise with Alabama A&M University. As the university’s CEO, Roberts marshals the institution’s $1.54 billion annual budget and vast resources, while spearheading the university’s strategic vision and advancing the Auburn’s ever-growing research enterprise and economic development.
Prior to his presidency, Roberts served as the dean of Auburn’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering from 2012-22. He began his career at Auburn in 1994 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and became department chair in 2003. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri and master’s and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He and his wife, Tracy, met in Auburn. They have two children, who attended Auburn University.
This summer, AUYP hosted a discussion panel with Mike Clardy, Alabama Cooperative Extension System director of communications, strategic marketing and client relations; Amanda Malone, director of budget and finance for the Office of the Provost; and Corey Edwards, assistant to the senior vice president for Student Affairs. The summer session allowed young professionals to interact with the panel and ask questions regarding their careers at Auburn, lessons learned, advice to those just starting out at Auburn and general conversation about being an Auburn University employee.
