Auburn Family is invited to annual Dr. Martin Luther King Scholarship Breakfast, other MLK events

Auburn University will join the rest of the nation in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15 through events and activities to honor the life and legacy of one of the most influential and accomplished figures in the history of United States. King’s activism and organizational leadership played a key role in the American civil rights movement and his legacy continues.

The 2024 MLK Scholarship Breakfast is a collaboration between the National Forum for Black Public Administrators-East Central Alabama Chapter, Auburn University Outreach and the Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID) and will take place from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The theme is, “The time is always right to do what is right.”

The guest speaker is Byron P. Franklin Sr., senior pastor and CEO of Living Word Church in Livingston, Alabama, and Trustee Emeritus (1999-2012) of Auburn University. Individual tickets and table sponsorships can be purchased online. All proceeds support the National Forum for Black Public Administrators-East Central Alabama Chapter scholarships for local high school students.

In addition to the annual scholarship breakfast, there are a variety of opportunities for members of the Auburn Family to celebrate and learn about the life of King and his fight for civil rights. The Black Student Union (BSU), in collaboration with IMPACT Student Volunteer Organization, Student Involvement and OID, is hosting a Canned Food Drive Jan. 9-31 and a day of service where participants will have the opportunity to give back to the Auburn community by participating in service projects.
