The Department of Labor has recently announced a notable change to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s minimum salary threshold for overtime pay.

  • As of April 24, the minimum annual salary required for exemption from minimum wage and overtime provisions of the FLSA is $35,568.
  • Effective July 1, 2024, the threshold will increase to $43,888.
  • Effective Jan. 1, 2025, the threshold will increase again to $58,656.

These adjustments mean that more Auburn employees will have their positions designated as nonexempt:

  • They will become eligible for overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
  • They will be required to record their time through Kronos.
  • They will be paid biweekly (every two weeks) rather than monthly.

University Human Resources is actively monitoring these changes and will soon provide further details regarding the implementation timeline and its impact on employees. If you have any questions, please visit Auburn’s FLSA website. You can also contact your HR Liaison or email univhr@auburn.edu.
