Several employees have been recognized as Spirit of Excellence recipients for their contributions to Auburn University.
Anita Smith, Office of the Registrar (Provost), Office Administration
"Anita exemplifies professionalism and dedication to excellent service by putting forth extra effort in showing patience and attention to detail," Smith's nominator wrote. "She keeps excellent records and alerts the university schedulers in advance letting them know when certain rooms are available and any deadlines that are in motion. She is always pleasant and has a good and positive attitude."
Dora Moore, Custodial Services (Facilities Management), Service/ Maintenance
"Dora is considered the 'gold standard' of cleaning in Custodial Services. The clients in all five of the buildings that she services adore her, and clients from previous buildings that she serviced in the past still ask about her. Her cleaning is exceptional," Moore's nominator wrote. "Dora has worked in Custodial Services for 27 years. Her outstanding performance as a custodian is exemplified daily and across multiple buildings. Most custodians service only one building a day, but Dora services four buildings daily. She is very dependable and a valuable employee."
Samantha Allbrook, Engineering Administration, Administration/Professional
"In late 2022, the College of Engineering began an effort to train all employees on the ethical conduct of research. Sam has coordinated each of the training sessions, and the program would not be possible without Sam. She is also a master at relationship building and creating a team/family feel among students in the IDEAS program," Allbrook's nominator wrote. "I have never experienced her dropping the ball or failing to follow up on even the most minuscule detail. The students she mentors adore her! Her competence, cheerful attitude, devotion to her job, and her intelligence, make her the ideal candidate for this award."
Sedrick Jefferson, Auburn University Libraries, Technical/ Paraprofessional
"Sedrick wrote a new app in the computer language C# to enable our new Zebra Label Printer to print call number labels for print books. Our previous printer relied on legacy software, however ensuring that new devices and tools are compatible can be a challenge. Sedrick researched the new printer's technical specifications using information provided online by the vendor and deduced that two computer languages, C# and Java, could be used to communicate with the printer. Writing code in both languages, Sedrick later decided to focus on C# while partnering with Janet Bandy to confirm rules for printing call numbers on labels," Jefferson's nominator wrote. "Sedrick’s app allows Janet to scan or enter a barcode while the app queries Voyager for the call number and other relevant data. The app can format and print data on the label in landscape or portrait mode."
