Elizabeth Covington, associate clinical professor in the Harrison College of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice, recently received the Innovation Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Technology in Pharmacy Education and Practice Special Interest Group. Her project was selected for its innovative use of ChatGPT in experiential learning. Covington received her award during the AACP Annual Meeting, July 20-23 in Boston, during the SIG Networking Session.

The activity utilizes a ChatGPT prompt to generate sequential patient case details, such as chief complaint, history of present illness, laboratory values, etc. The specific prompt covers a variety of inpatient infections relevant to the applicant’s practice area. Fourth-year advanced pharmacy practice experience students then engage in a weekly preceptor-facilitated interactive discussion to complete the activity.
