Jay Ramapuram, professor in the Harrison College of Pharmacy's Department of Drug Discovery and Development, was recently recognized as a Fellow by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. He is one of just eight members across the country this year to be selected for elevation to Fellow status in recognition of their professional excellence and sustained superior impact in fields relevant to AAPS’ mission of advancing the capacity of pharmaceutical scientists to develop products and therapies that improve global health. He will be formally recognized at the PharmSci 360 Meeting on Sunday, Oct. 20 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ramapuram joined HCOP in 2005 and has made contributions to pharmaceutical technologies and advanced scientific knowledge in overcoming drug delivery barriers across the skin, ocular, nasal, oral and parenteral routes. For this, he has utilized various innovative approaches such as cyclodextrin complexation, nanoparticulate systems and nano vesicular systems.

He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and more than 120 conference abstracts. His work has supported the development of innovative products in both human and animal health. Ramapuram is actively engaged within the AAPS as the chair of the AAPS Lipid-Based Drug Delivery Systems (LBDDS) Community, track-chair of the Abstract Screening Committee and Rapid Fire Committee and has served as a moderator of several webinars for the LBDDS community. He is a co-editor of three pharmaceutical journals and an editorial board member of several others.
