Auburn University Campus

September is Campus Safety Awareness month. At Auburn, safety is a top priority.

National Campus Safety Awareness Month provides opportunities to encourage the public conversation about violence prevention at colleges and universities across the nation.

Here at Auburn, we have a partnership with Auburn City Police to provide police services to campus. This unique campus-city model provides access to a network of resources and has been serving our students, staff, faculty and visitors for 20 years.

We provide specialized training in a variety of topics designed to empower our campus community to do their part in keeping campus safe. Topics include self-defense, emergency preparedness, severe weather, active shooter, C-CERT (Campus Community Emergency Response Team), CSA (Campus Security Authority) training, as well as CPR, First Aid, AED and Narcan usage.

Providing nightly security shuttle services for all of our on-campus locations allows us to foster that spirit of mutual helpfulness for our Auburn Community. This calendar year we are anticipated to provide over 100,000 safe rides.

Safety is everyone’s responsibly making it imperative that we lead with transparency. We want to make sure we are informing the public about concerns or crimes that could impact their community, thus our crime disclosures can be found in our accurate and timely emergency and crime notifications and daily crime and fire logs.

On or before Oct. 1, Auburn will release its annual security and fire safety report with three years of crime and fire statistics and a comprehensive summary of campus security policies.

It is our goal at Auburn Campus Safety and Security to provide a safe and secure environment for every student, staff and faculty member, along with parents, guests, and visitors. Connie and Howard Clery, founders of the Clery Center, believe “the best education in the world is useless if a student doesn’t survive with a healthy mind and body,” according to the Clery Center website.

Although September marks Campus Safety Awareness month, it’s a reminder that safety is important every day of the year.
