As fall graduation concludes, several construction projects will commence across campus and continue through Jan. 10, 2025. Notable modifications will occur in the Samford Avenue and Duncan Drive vicinity. The transformation will begin with partially removing the construction fence surrounding the College of Education building and improving the traffic signal at the intersection.

Currently, the College of Education construction webcam shows the final touches being made to the sidewalks and steps around the building. By Jan. 17, landscaping will be added, and the construction fence will be entirely removed. Classes are scheduled to commence in the building for the summer 2025 semester.

Samford and Duncan's traffic signal improvement project includes replacing the four wooden poles and above-ground wires with two metal poles and underground wiring. Pedestrian safety will also be enhanced with new push buttons to signal safe crossing times.

“The removal of the fence and enhancement of the traffic signal at Duncan and Samford will improve the experience for students, faculty, and staff,” said Simon Yendle, assistant vice president of Planning, Design and Construction within Facilities Management. “These upgrades will streamline traffic flow, making it safer and more convenient to navigate the area.

“This project is part of a larger initiative, including the STEM and Agriculture sectors, to provide a cohesive campus experience.”

Additional projects in progress from Dec. 16 to Jan. 10 include:

Heisman Drive Detour: Vehicular traffic will exit Heisman Drive via the Thach Concourse for a duct bank installation crossing Heisman Drive near the new Jordan-Hare Stadium North Endzone Videoboard construction site. Traffic on Heisman Drive will be limited during this period.

Quad Drive Partial Closure: A section of Quad Drive and the associated sidewalk adjacent to the New University Student Housing construction will close to connect underground utilities from the upper to the lower Quad Residence Halls.

Sidewalk Closure in Front of Gavin: A section of the sidewalk in front of the Gavin Engineering Research Laboratory and along Magnolia Avenue will close for utility work. Pedestrians will need to cross the street at the Gavin Concourse and use the sidewalk on the north side of Magnolia.

Limited Use of Foy Hall Loading Dock: The dock usage will be limited during a project to enhance its efficiency and compactor.

All of these projects, as well as ongoing major construction projects, are outlined on the campus map under the Construction tab.
