Members of Sigma Nu at Auburn

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Auburn University's fraternities have demonstrated exceptional initiative in providing service to communities in need. Members of Sigma Nu, Chi Phi, and Pi Kappa Alpha have proactively sought out opportunities to extend help to the communities affected by the hurricane.

On Oct. 5, 2024, members of Sigma Nu fraternity traveled to Valdosta, Georgia, to assist with hurricane relief efforts. Upon arrival, the brothers were assigned to various tasks within the community, including clearing debris from the homes of elderly and disabled residents, and restoring the local park and recreation fields to ensure they were playable for an upcoming state championship softball game. One group remained at the high school to distribute supplies, food, and water alongside the National Guard.

Noel Turner, a business major from Fairhope, AL, reflected on the experience, stating, "My favorite part was how appreciative the people there were and that we were able to fix the fields so they could finish the season. It was a very rewarding experience."

In addition to Sigma Nu's efforts, the brothers of Chi Phi and Pi Kappa Alpha raised a total of $7,000 to purchase and distribute essential supplies to those affected by the hurricane. Seven members of Chi Phi traveled to Winter Haven, FL where they provided water, diapers, and other necessities to displaced residents and linemen working to repair the storm damage. This initiative supported the community and fostered teamwork, leadership, and a deeper understanding of the value of helping others.
