Elizabeth Covington, associate clinical professor in the Harrison College of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice, was recently recognized with the Herman Lazarus ALSHP Distinguished Service Award at the Alabama Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ALSHP) annual clinical meeting.

The award is in honor of the services Herman Lazarus performed throughout his life for the field of pharmacy. In 1976, he served a term as president of the Alabama Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP), served as ASHP’s president in 1985–86 and was an active ASHP member for more than 50 years.

The award recognizes those who have made meaningful contributions to health-system pharmacy that extend beyond their own practice site, as well as significant contributions to ALSHP and other national and regional pharmacy organizations. Along with her faculty position, Covington also maintains an internal medicine practice site at East Alabama Health.
