Provost Vini Nathan and the Office of Academic Insight recently recognized three academic programs for their outstanding commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in student learning assessment.

This year’s recipients of the Provost’s Excellence in Assessment Award are biosystems engineering (BBSE), civil engineering (BCE) and pharmacy (PharmD).

The annual award honors academic programs that demonstrate exemplary practices in assessment, as determined through a rigorous peer-review process led by a faculty fellow and assessment professionals in the Office of Academic Insight (OAI).

Each year submitted reports are evaluated using OAI’s Quality of Assessment rubric, which provides each academic unit with ratings (from beginning to exemplary) and with specific, actionable, formative feedback across key elements that define quality assessment practices.

For the 2024 cycle, the University Assessment Council — an advisory committee focused on promoting quality program assessment — opted to recognize programs that achieved all exemplary scores during the blind peer-review.

At an April 16 celebratory reception, Nathan and OAI acknowledged the dedication and leadership of Jon Davis (BBSE), Robbie Barnes (BCE) and Dan Trujillo (PharmD), who coordinate assessment for their respective programs, as well as the faculty who contribute to ongoing assessment efforts.
