Auburn's 2022 Three Minute Thesis winner presents at the regional competition

Auburn University graduate students are invited to showcase their research communication skills by participating in the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition, with registration open now through Oct. 22.

Developed by The University of Queensland, the 3MT competition challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis or dissertation research and its significance — all in just three minutes.

The event is designed to help students develop academic, presentation and research communication skills, while also encouraging them to effectively explain their research in language appropriate for a non-specialist audience.

“3MT is a unique opportunity for our graduate students to share their research in a concise and engaging way,” said Sheena Stewart, director of professional development at the Graduate School. “It not only helps students hone their communication skills but also allows the broader community to appreciate the impactful work being done at Auburn.”

Interested students must register to participate online by the Oct. 22 deadline. Preliminary rounds are scheduled for Oct. 28 and 30, where participants will have the chance to impress a panel of judges with their succinct presentations.

The top 10 presenters will advance to the final round, which will take place on Nov. 19 in the Melton Student Center Ballroom. The overall winner will go on to represent Auburn  at the Council of Southern Graduate School's regional competition in the spring.

The competition is open to all current graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation. Participants will be judged on their ability to communicate their research clearly and effectively to a general audience, making this event an excellent opportunity for personal and professional development.
