The Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development is seeking abstract submissions from faculty research teams and students for an upcoming event focused on artificial intelligence in research and how new AI communities and AI research collaborations can be developed.

The AI@AU/Team Science Series: “Building Research Communities in AI” is scheduled for March 3, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Melton Student Center Ballroom.

The collaborative event features an AI showcase sharing ongoing applications or investigations of AI in research through posters, slides and lightning talks. The work of students under faculty mentorship will be displayed in rotation on screens at the event. Organizers noted that interdisciplinary research teams will receive preference for poster session space.

The showcase will be followed by a faculty workshop designed to facilitate networking and topical discussions among peers.

Submission portals for abstracts are currently open for both faculty and students. The deadline to submit is Jan. 29, 2026. Interested participants can find more information and submission links on the Team Science webpage.

“Building Research Communities in AI” continues the Team Science Series launched in November 2024 to foster collaborative interdisciplinary research across the university.

“The purpose of the Team Science Series is to bring together researchers from diverse disciplines to learn from one another and explore shared interests,” said Jennifer Kerpelman, associate vice president for research. “The connections formed through these sessions can spark future collaborations that tackle complex challenges and generate meaningful impact.”

Previous Team Science Series events have focused on stress science and team leadership.  A trio of leadership workshops, tailored for new and existing research teams, will focus on tackling team hurdles and developing success strategies and is slated for February and April 2026. More information and registration links for those events will be available in the coming weeks on the Team Science page and in the Funding Focus Newsletter.
