Rachel Prado's dedication to advancing education, supporting faculty and engaging in outreach initiatives has made her a standout figure at Auburn University. Her tireless efforts and commitment have now been recognized with the prestigious College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) Service-Outreach award, acknowledging her invaluable contributions to the university and beyond.

Doug Goodwin, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the department, speaks highly of Prado's relentless drive.

"At her core, Rachel Prado is about advancing students, no matter where they may be," Goodwin said. "Whether they're in middle school, high school or taking organic or general chemistry courses at Auburn, Rachel is committed to their education and success."

Beyond her role as an educator, Prado is deeply engaged in service and outreach.

She is a steadfast advocate for non-tenure track faculty, working at the department, college and university levels to ensure their contributions are recognized. Prado is a Biggio Faculty Fellow, the Secretary-elect of the University Senate and an active contributor to numerous outreach programs through COSAM’s Outreach office.

"Try to find a place on campus where Rachel Prado isn't involved — it's almost impossible," Goodwin said. "She's everywhere, making a difference."

For Prado, this award is a meaningful recognition of her behind-the-scenes work.

"It's always nice to be recognized for some of the work I've done, particularly in supporting non-tenure track faculty and in outreach," she said.

Prado has been instrumental in initiatives like the I-STEM Connectory, a new collaborative center designed to unite various STEM outreach efforts across campus.

"This initiative connects faculty, industry professionals, educators and students, making a real impact. We've already reached over 1,000 people in just a few months," Prado said.

"Rachel brings a positive, collaborative and creative energy to everything she does", says Mary Lou Ewald, co-director of the I-STEM Connectory and director of COSAM’s Outreach programs. “She has a gift for listening to people, understanding and assessing their needs and then developing a viable and inclusive solution - she is really a dream to work with."

Her passion for connecting people and fostering opportunities is evident in all she does. Whether mentoring students, advocating for faculty or building new outreach programs, Prado consistently goes above and beyond.

"She doesn't just put in a little effort across many things — she gives 100% to everything she’s involved in," Goodwin said. "I honestly don’t know how she does it."

Prado's recognition is well-deserved, honoring her unwavering commitment to Auburn's mission of education, service and outreach. Her work continues to inspire both colleagues and students, ensuring a brighter future for the Auburn community and beyond.
