Bruce Gladden

School of Kinesiology Professor Bruce Gladden published a paper in 2008 that has been selected for a list of “100 essential papers in sports and exercise physiology.” Gladden, the director of the Muscle Physiology Lab, has authored more than 100 research papers and has work has been cited more than 9,400 times. However, it was his paper “200th anniversary of lactate research in muscle” written in 2008 and published in Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews that earned him a spot on the top 100 essential papers list. The list was unranked.

Two former editors-in-chief of the journal International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance published the paper in which they list “100 essential papers in sports and exercise physiology.” To make their list, they enlisted 52 exercise physiologists and sport scientists.

Gladden’s research centers on bioenergetics (lactate metabolism and oxygen uptake on-kinetics). To read more about him, go to https://education.auburn.edu/directory/profile.php?profid=gladden-bruce-l.
