Auburn’s College of Education has long been a hub of learning for future teachers. On Feb. 12, it’ll serve that role again in a new and exciting way for the entire state — hosting the annual Future Teachers of Alabama conference.

“This is the first time that the Future Teachers of Alabama Annual Conference will be held on Auburn University’s campus,” said Student Services Coordinator David Shamp. “We are excited to encourage middle school and high school students to explore the field of education in order to build a better future for all.”

The conference will welcome more than 1,300 students and advisors from throughout the state in affiliation with the FTA, an organization of middle school and high school students who are interested in becoming teachers and exploring a career in education.

Conference activities will occur in Auburn’s Melton Student Center, Haley Center and its Student Activities Building. Attendees will attend breakout sessions to aid them in their journey to becoming a teacher, including the following topics: Supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students, Preparing to Become an Education Major, Survival Kit for Aspiring Educators, and AI: Educator Ally or Adversary, among others.

The event represents an important partnership between the College of Education and the FTA, with plans for future conference collaborations.

“This conference is such a great opportunity for students to gain exposure to Auburn’s campus and education programs,” Shamp said. “We look forward to further building connections with the FTA and serving as a helpful resource to students who aspire to become teachers.”
