Madison Messick, an undergraduate student majoring in elementary education, will represent Auburn’s College of Education as the student marshal for the spring 2025 commencement ceremonies.
From Foley, Alabama, Messick is set to be a third-generation teacher upon her graduation in May and knew from a young age that education would be her chosen career.
“Growing up with a family full of teachers, I knew teaching was what I wanted to do,” she said. “Seeing my family make a difference in every student that has come across their lives has been an absolute blessing.”
Messick describes Auburn as the school of her dreams, and she was involved in several organizations during her time on the Plains, including the College of Education Student Ambassadors for which she served as president. She was also a WINGS Peer Mentor with the college’s EAGLES Program and a member of Kappa Delta Phi and Delight Ministries.
“As soon as I stepped on campus, I knew it was the school of my dreams,” said Messick. “Auburn has prepared me for so much in my future classroom, and I can't wait to take those things with me forever.”
Following graduation, Messick plans to pursue a master’s degree in elementary education at Auburn and work as a graduate assistant before getting into a classroom of her own. Her long-term goal is to be able to make a difference in the lives of every student she teaches.
“Maddy is the type of student who not only excels academically but also uplifts those around her,” said Victoria Cardullo, a professor of elementary education. “Her leadership, dedication and passion for education make a lasting impact on her peers and the College of Education. She leads with integrity, serves with heart and embodies the very best of what we strive to cultivate in future educators. I look forward to working with Maddy as a graduate student!”
Messick and all other College of Education students will be recognized during the commencement ceremony on May 10.
