Students interested in a future in education engaged with school districts from many states on Thursday as part of Auburn’s annual Fall Education Interview Day, which was held this year inside the newly opened College of Education building.

The event, offered by Auburn University Career Discovery and Success and the College of Education, was one of networking, interviewing and learning about job opportunities.

Jaime Schnader, an instrumental music education major at Auburn, was among the many students who attended.

“I’m really excited about Interview Day to get to talk to different employers, especially ones that I might not have heard of before,” she said soon after arriving to the event.

This year’s event featured 42 school districts and was available to students of all majors.

“Education Interview Day is an exciting opportunity for our students to interview with multiple school districts from Alabama and beyond,” said Angela Shirley, an administrator of academic programs in Auburn’s College of Education.

Shirley said students are sometimes offered a job on the spot. Gene Yarrobino, the managing director of human resources for Frisco Independent School District in Texas, was one of the school district representatives on hand. He said his district has hired many Auburn College of Education students in the past, noting how impressive and well-prepared they are for the classroom.

Darleen Romenick, director of employee engagement and strategic partnerships at Fort Mill School District in South Carolina, was also amazed by the Auburn College of Education students she met.

“From the dynamic group sessions to the engaging one-on-one interviews, Auburn University’s education majors showed incredible passion, professionalism and heart for teaching,” she noted. “I definitely met some future FMSD elementary teachers among this talented group — their energy and dedication to making a difference in students’ lives were truly inspiring. Auburn, you’re doing amazing work preparing the next generation of educators!”

Those in attendance at Thursday’s event were also given the opportunity to have professional headshots taken, and Auburn’s College of Education was on hand to answer any questions about its programs and degrees.
