Emily Loy and her mom at Preview Day
Emily Loy and her mother were some of the first guests to arrive at this year’s Fall Preview Day, a bi-annual event that showcases everything that Auburn University’s College of Education has to offer to potential students.
From Huntsville, Alabama, Loy has already applied to Auburn and arrived at the Nov. 11 Preview Day excited to learn more about her preferred major, early childhood education.
“I saw Preview Day on the college’s website and immediately told my mom we had to go,” Loy said. “I wanted to immerse myself in the new building, learn more about my specific program and learn more about all the additional opportunities in the College of Education.”
For the first time, the event was held in the College of Education’s brand-new building on the corner of Samford Avenue and Duncan Drive. Those who attended Preview Day got an early look at what life would be like as a College of Education student in the actual space.
After a brief check-in period, Loy joined the many other students— from 10 states around the country—in the main atrium of the College of Education building for a warm welcome from Dean Jeffrey Fairbrother.
“The College of Education is so excited to host our first Preview Day in our new, state-of-the-art facility,” Fairbrother said at the event. “It has been wonderful to see this new home come alive as a vibrant hub for collaboration and discovery for students, and we hope that amid the information sessions and campus exploration, you will start to see yourself here.”
In addition to hearing from the dean, Preview Day attendees explored the wealth of opportunities provided by the College of Education at various tabling stations. Students mingled with college faculty and staff, and representatives from Auburn’s offices of admission, financial aid, housing, career discovery, accessibility and study abroad were present to share helpful information. Current students and college alumni were also available to answer questions from potential students and their families.
“Preview Day gives future students a great look into their future in the College of Education,” said Brooke Fligel, a student ambassador. “It allows for a more specialized experience where students learn more about specific programs than on a general visit.”
Following the morning’s events, all guests were offered a complimentary meal from Auburn’s premier dining facility, The Edge. They were also offered a general campus tour and a tour of the College of Education’s School of Kinesiology, located in a building on Wire Road.
