Will Leverenz and his father traveled from Northbrook, Illinois, to be at Spring Preview Day.
Will Leverenz arrived on the Plains on Monday from Northbrook, Illinois, full of excitement for the opportunity to learn more about Auburn’s College of Education at its Spring Preview Day.
“I’m excited to get a first-hand look at what life as a College of Education student is like and to learn more about the Math Education program,” Leverenz said.
Leverenz was just one of many high school students to attend the bi-annual event held in the college’s new building on the corner of Samford Avenue and Duncan Drive. In addition to Alabama, students and parents from 18 different states—including Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas and California—converged on Auburn’s campus to learn more about a future in education or healthcare.
After checking in to the event, attendees were greeted by College of Education Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs Jared Russell, who encouraged them to make the most of their experience and ask plenty of questions.
“We’re grateful for your commitment to learning more about our college, and we hope to showcase all we have to offer,” Russell said. “You will hear a lot of great information today. Please ask questions, and I hope that amid the information sessions and campus exploration, you will start to see yourself here.
“We value the student experience and the culture you will find and be part of as an Auburn student.”
Next, students and their parents explored the College of Education Building and spoke with college faculty, advisors, students and alumni. Representatives from other offices on campus, such as admissions, financial aid, housing and study abroad, hosted tables at the event, and the college’s student ambassadors served as the official hosts.
“I believe this is one of the most important events we work because it is essential for interested students to hear about the college from a student’s point of view,” said Madi Saville, a student ambassador majoring in Collaborative Teacher Special Education.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to share our experiences,” added student ambassador Lindsey Houser.
The day wrapped up with a complimentary meal at The Edge Dining facility, and tours of the College of Education Building and the School of Kinesiology Building were offered in the afternoon.
“With so many resources from the College of Education and the greater university in one place, Preview Day is truly the best way for interested students to learn more about what we have to offer,” Student Services Coordinator David Shamp said.
The College of Education’s next Preview Day will take place this fall. Those interested are encouraged to check the College of Education website for more information as it becomes available.
