The School of Kinesiology is hosting multiple events Feb. 23-27 as part of Healthcare Industry Week, a dynamic, week-long series of events designed to help students explore the wide range of career opportunities in health-related fields. Healthcare Industry Week, hosted once per semester by Career Discovery and Success at Auburn University, connects students with alumni, expert panels, and professionals to help them discover their best career path.
“Each semester, participation in our Healthcare Industry Week events continues to grow,” said Robin Martin, director of academic advising for the School of Kinesiology. “We have hosted panel discussions with alumni and community members who represent a variety of healthcare-related to fields, from physical and occupational therapy to corporate wellness and research. With our first cohort of physical therapy students in their third semester on campus, it felt like a natural fit for us to use Healthcare Industry Week as a chance to connect those students to undergraduates who are considering the same path.”
Events in the School of Kinesiology will primarily focus on careers in physical therapy and occupational therapy, kicking off with mock interviews starting Monday, Feb. 23 and being held at various times throughout the week through Thursday afternoon. These small group interviews will take place with Auburn’s Doctor of Physical Therapy faculty and staff. To make these interviews as close to an actual interview as possible, students are encouraged to dress in business attire and bring a resume and personal statement geared toward their professional program application.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 12:30-1:30 p.m., current Doctor of Physical Therapy students will host a panel moderated my PT Director Harsimran Baweja. The panel will be held in room 241 of the Student Activities Center. Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to talk to panelists and faculty members and tour the physical therapy classrooms.
“Many of our undergraduate students, particularly those who are exercise science majors, are planning to pursue a career in physical therapy,” Martin said. “Of the students who are accepted to physical therapy schools across the country each year, exercise science is the most common major. However, these events are open to any major across campus, and we encourage anyone who is even thinking about physical therapy as a career path to sign up for a mock interview and participate in our events to learn more.”
