Maddison Jones, an elementary education major in Auburn’s College of Education, has been named this year’s recipient of the Bobbie Umbach Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Scholarship, an honor recognizing future educators who exemplify leadership, service and a strong commitment to the teaching profession.

Jones, who currently serves as a College of Education Student Ambassador, said receiving the scholarship affirmed both her hard work and her dedication to becoming an educator.

“I am extremely grateful to have received the Bobbie Umbach ADK Scholarship,” Jones said. “This opportunity has reminded me that hard work will pay off and has inspired me to continue pushing myself to succeed and to stay dedicated to my goals. It serves as both encouragement and motivation as I continue working towards becoming an educator.”

The Bobbie Umbach Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship honors the enduring legacy of Bobbie Umbach, a two-time Auburn University graduate whose career was marked by impactful leadership in Auburn City and Lee County Schools. Umbach extended her influence through state-level consulting, mentoring future educators, teaching at Auburn University and a deep commitment to community service through volunteerism.

Jones reflects that legacy through her commitment to teaching, meaningful volunteer involvement and demonstrated leadership as an emerging educator. Her work as a College of Education Student Ambassador has enabled her to represent the college while building connections with peers, faculty and prospective students.

“My experience in the College of Education has been very rewarding,” Jones said. “I have had the opportunity to serve as an Education Ambassador, which has allowed me to represent the college, build meaningful relationships and grow both professionally and personally. Most importantly, this role has given me the chance to engage with prospective students and share why I am so passionate about the College of Education.”

Jones added that the support she has received through the college and organizations like Alpha Delta Kappa has further strengthened her desire to make a lasting impact in the classroom.

“The support and opportunities I have received have strengthened my passion for teaching and prepared me to make a meaningful impact in the classroom,” she said. “I am excited to continue developing my skills and to one day inspire my own students to pursue their goals with confidence and determination.”

Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to excellence in education and the empowerment of teachers worldwide. Founded on the principles of altruism, scholarship and service, the organization works to promote high standards in education while supporting educators through professional development, community service and philanthropic efforts.

Through the Bobbie Umbach Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship, the organization continues its mission of honoring exceptional future educators like Jones, whose passion for teaching and dedication to service reflect the values and legacy of the scholarship.
