Auburn University has announced the appointment of Jim Carroll as the new vice president of Facilities Management. He will assume his new role on Aug. 19.
A seasoned leader with over 35 years of experience in planning, architecture, engineering and construction project management, Carroll brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the university.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jim Carroll back to Auburn University as our new vice president of Facilities Management,” said Kelli Shomaker, senior vice president for Business and Administration and Chief Financial Officer. “His extensive experience on both the design and operations side of facilities management, coupled with his proven leadership skills, make him the ideal candidate to oversee our growing campus infrastructure.”
Carroll previously served as Auburn’s university architect from 2011 to 2017, where he led a team managing more than 13 million square feet of space and a capital project program exceeding $1.1 billion. “I am honored to return to Auburn University and lead the talented Facilities Management team,” said Carroll. “I am passionate about creating and maintaining high-quality facilities that support the educational and research missions of the university. I look forward to working collaboratively with faculty, staff and students to ensure a vibrant and sustainable campus environment.”
Prior to rejoining Auburn, Carroll served as the associate vice chancellor and university architect at the University of California, Davis. In this role, he led a 125-person team and oversaw a $1.6 billion program of complex university facility construction projects.
Carroll holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Maryland and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. He is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Association of University Architects and the Construction Owners Association of America.
