Let's Get to know Emily

Why did you choose your degrees?

I pursued my bachelor’s in theatre because it was something I was always super involved with growing up. I loved being part of the theatre community and producing art that sparked joy in others. I worked at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival for a few years before COVID put an end to my theatre journey and I decided to go back to school and get my Master’s in Higher Education. Education has always been a huge part of my life, and I specifically wanted to work in an environment where I could help others discover that same love for education.

What brought you to the Honors College?

I first began my journey with Honors during my master’s program, where I worked as the Graduate Assistant for Academic Advising. I loved being part of the Honors community and helping students plan their academic journeys. After I graduated, I worked as an advisor for the College of Engineering for a few years, but I am so excited to come back to Honors!

Do you have any hobbies?

Yes! I love to read, you will probably catch me at Well Red on the weekends enjoying a good book. I also love to run – I’ve run three half marathons and am about to complete my fourth!

What are small things that make your day better?

A good cup of coffee and a slice of chocolate cake from Publix.

Movies, TV, or Books – or all three?

Books, TV, and Movies (in that order), but books will always be my number one.

You’d be surprised to know that I can … (not) whistle.

I’ve always wanted to know how…

What do you hope to accomplish here at the Honors College?

My purpose in becoming an advisor was to help students navigate their academic careers. I love playing a small part in student’s journeys, whether that is helping them think through what classes to take or whether to get an internship. My main hope during my time at Honors is that I will be a sounding board and a resource for students to help guide them through whatever issues or challenges arise.

What are you most excited about working at the Honors College?

The classes! Honors has so many amazing class selections. I am so excited to be able to teach and hope to connect with students both in and out of the classroom.

What advice would you give to an Honors College student?

Take advantage of the amazing opportunities you have in college. Four years go by super fast, so while you are in college, make sure to do everything you can. Study abroad, take the “fun” class that doesn’t count for your major, camp out for basketball games. These are opportunities that won’t happen again. Even though I am an advisor and will always be an advocate for making sure you are on top of your academics, don’t forget to have some fun on the side.

Do you have a favorite Auburn memory / or Auburn area memory?

My freshman year of college was the Miracle in Jordan Hare and Kick Six. I was only there for the Georgia game (Miracle in Jordan Hare), so sadly I have never stormed the field, but both those games were wild! I think they left the trees rolled for at least a week after both games – they were still rolled during finals!
