Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management to launch beverage management minor this fall

To continue its commitment to cultivate the next generation of leaders in the global hospitality and tourism industries, the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management in the College of Human Sciences will soon offer a brand-new opportunity with the establishment of the beverage management minor to be offered to all eligible Auburn University students beginning in fall 2026.

Open to all Auburn University students interested in the beverage management industry, the beverage management minor gives students hands-on knowledge of the dynamic beverage industry and explores the full supply chain while developing the scientific, practical and business skills needed for careers in production, marketing, distribution and hospitality.

“This minor gives students from across the university a meaningful way to engage with one of the most dynamic areas of hospitality,” Head of the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management Dr. Martin O’Neill said. “It not only broadens their academic experience but also provides practical skills and industry insight that can translate directly into exciting and diverse career opportunities.”

To complete the minor, students must earn 15 credit hours including three required courses consisting of science of beverages, beverage industry operations and non-alcoholic beverages and international culture. Elective courses open to eligible Auburn students who are at least 21 years old include the world of beer, the world of wine, distilled spirits and mixology and beverage tourism.

The coursework covers beverage science, production and regulations, supply chain management, sensory evaluation, global beverage cultures, tourism and industry operations.

The beverage management minor offers students a chance to explore real-world career pathways that could lead to a future career in production and manufacturing, marketing and brand development, sales and distribution, hospitality and beverage programs and much more.
