The College of Human Sciences to remember Professor and Head Emerita Dr. Pamela Ulrich with Celebration of Life July 23

Dr. Pamela Ulrich, who devoted a large portion of her life to education, serving Auburn University for more than 44 years before retiring as the College of Human Sciences Consumer and Design Sciences Department Head and Under Armour Professor in 2022, will be remembered during a celebration of life on Thursday, July 23, from 4-6 p.m. at The Red Barn in Auburn.

Loved ones of Ulrich invite the College of Human Sciences family to join them for the celebration of life to share memories and honor the legacy of a former colleague and leader who contributed greatly to the College of Human Sciences. Ulrich passed on May 13 at the age of 77 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ulrich worked her way up at Auburn University, as part-time instructor, tenured full-time professor, graduate program officer and lastly to Consumer and Design Sciences department head. In addition, Ulrich served on a number of different committees ranging from graduation marshal to the university budget advisory committee.

Upon her retirement, Ulrich reflected on her time at the College of Human Sciences, the treasured relationships formed over the decades and what it all meant to her.

“The people, the collegiality, the leadership and I’ve really been lucky to be here for all those things and those reasons,” Ulrich said shortly before retiring in 2022. “In terms of collegiality and ties between departments and within departments it’s only become stronger over time.”

Consumer and Design Sciences Department Head Emerita Dr. Carol Warfield first worked with Ulrich at Auburn when she was a graduate student and graduate assistant in graduate research methods in Consumer Affairs and Warfield served as her assistant professor.

“Dr. Ulrich’s special interests were History of Costume and Apparel Design & Production Management,” said Warfield. “She was integrally involved in teaching, research and service — actively teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a researcher, she was an effective leader and a valuable team member. She was active in professional organizations associated with textiles and apparel and an integral part of the growth in size and stature of the Consumer Affairs/Consumer and Design Sciences Department.”

A portion of Ulrich’s obituary reads, “Pam devoted her life to education, leadership and service, leaving behind a lasting legacy for the many students, colleagues and friends whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life. Pam believed deeply in the importance of listening to others, treating everyone with dignity and fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. Pam will be remembered not only for her extraordinary accomplishments as an educator and academic leader, but also for the grace, compassion and integrity with which she lived her life. Her influence will continue to be felt among all who had the privilege of knowing her.”
