International Women's Day 2024

The International Cultural Center (ICC) in the Office of International Programs and the Women and Gender Studies program in the College of Liberal Arts will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) and ICC’s Year of Indonesia with a free lunch seminar on March 13 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Student Center, ballroom B.

The seminar, Nurturing Ambitions: Global Initiatives to Promote Women’s Success, will have a panel of Auburn faculty, community members and student representatives to interactively discuss the issues, accomplishments and challenges women face worldwide. Attendees are encouraged to share their perspectives and engage in the discussion.

Celebrated since 1911, IWD is a global celebration that highlights the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for propelling women’s equality and focuses on the collective responsibility of all societies to prioritize women’s personal and professional career goals for everyone’s optimum quality of life. IWD 2024 is officially on March 8 and the slogan is #InspireInclusion.

In addition to celebrating IWD, the seminar will highlight ICC’s Year of Indonesia. Attendees will be able to view Indonesian artifacts and artwork while enjoying their lunch. The International "Year of…" Program is an ICC initiative that highlights a country or region of the world each academic year for targeted learning and exploration. Students, faculty, staff and the wider Auburn community are provided with learning experiences to build global knowledge and citizenship through multiple educational and awareness activities.

“Worldwide, International Women’s Day celebrates women’s accomplishments and emphasizes the need to continue the inclusion imperative as everyone’s responsibility,” said Adeola Fayemi, diversity and inclusion manager, International Cultural Center. “This year, Auburn’s lunch seminar brings our campus community together in a collective and intentional effort to raise awareness and recognize the milestones of exemplary local and global initiatives that nurture young women to strive towards their optimum capabilities.”
