In many ways, Auburn’s Undergraduate Research Program has been one of the university’s most impressive hidden gems, but the secret’s getting out. Every year, more than 1,000 Auburn undergraduates dive into hands‑on research projects that push boundaries, spark ideas and fuel real innovation.

Although the majority of undergraduate research is conducted in STEM fields, proposals come from every college on campus. Contrary to popular belief, undergraduate research can be done in any area, from history, English, engineering, science, and more.

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) teams up with colleges to champion and support more than 100 competitive Undergraduate Research Fellowships annually, opening doors for students to explore, experiment and excel.

Deadline to apply for the 2026–27 Auburn University Undergraduate Research Fellowship is February 15, 2026.

OUR Director Lorenzo Cremaschi’s mission is to fast-track Auburn’s undergraduate research efforts into an even brighter future, helping students blaze a path to success.

“Many students participate out of curiosity and want to experience more of what they have learned in class,” Cremaschi said. “There is no doubt that conducting research at the undergraduate level puts them on a better path to future graduate school or job offers.”

Applications are now open for the 2026–27 Office of Undergraduate Research at Auburn University Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF).  Whether you're a student looking for a summer research experience or a year-long project, the URF offers flexible options starting in summer or fall 2026 or spring 2027, all concluding by spring 2027.
