75 pharmacy graduates moving on to residency programs
Class of 2026 charts 94.3% match rate

Seventy five Harrison College of Pharmacy graduates were recently selected to post-graduate residency programs at hospitals, clinics, universities and the pharmaceutical industry around the country. Included among them are 55 that are entering first-year programs and 20 entering second-year programs.
The Class of 2026 totaled a 94.3% match rate while the Harrison College of Pharmacy (HCOP) came in with a 93.2% PGY-1 match rate. Among programs with 40 or more matches, HCOP ranks among the top 10 in the country. HCOP finished with a 100% match rate among PGY-2 programs.
Residencies are post-graduate training programs that build upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from the pharmacy degree program. While many first-year programs (PGY-1) are general in nature, some allow students to specialize in certain areas, such as managed care, ambulatory care, community pharmacy and health system administration. Some choose to pursue a second-year residency (PGY-2) that can focus on specialty practice areas, such as infectious diseases, oncology, pediatrics and psychiatry.
Those accepted to PGY-1 and PGY-2 residencies are spread among 19 states with 31 remaining in-state to care for those in Alabama.
“We are very proud of our students and graduates who have earned positions in these highly competitive and rigorous programs,” said Dr. Leigh Ann Ross, dean of the Harrison College of Pharmacy. “Our commitment to develop the next generation’s leaders is reflected in our students’ success in pursuing these coveted positions.”
In all, 50 members of the Class of 2026 are moving on to PGY-1 residencies, along with five previous graduates. Additionally, 20 members of the Class of 2025 are entering PGY-2 programs.
“Pharmacy offers a wide range of rewarding career paths, and completing a residency is an excellent way to build advanced clinical skills,” Ross said. “We take great pride in developing the next generation of pharmacy leaders and look forward to watching their continued success as they take this next step in their professional journey.”
Of the 55 entering PGY-1 residency programs, they will be spread among 15 states with 27 in Alabama, six in Georgia, four in Tennessee, three in Mississippi, and two each in California, Florida, Kentucky and Texas, Additionally, there are one each in Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
The 20 PGY-2 residents represent 11 states with five in Tennessee four each in Alabama and two each in Georgia and North Carolina. There are one each Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
Those in second-year programs will specialize in areas such as ambulatory care, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, oncology, pediatric and psychiatric pharmacy.2026 Auburn Pharmacy PGY-1 Residency Matches
