McDonald joins Harrison College of Pharmacy as assistant clinical professor

Courtney McDonald, PharmD, a 2020 graduate of the Harrison College of Pharmacy, recently joined the college as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Courtney McDonald back to the Harrison College of Pharmacy,” said Dr. Leigh Ann Ross, dean of the Harrison College of Pharmacy. “An Auburn Pharmacy alumna with extensive experience in oncology pharmacotherapy, she brings valuable clinical expertise, a deep commitment to patient care and a genuine passion for teaching. Education is at the heart of her work, and I am confident she will enrich the learning experience for our students while advancing our mission to improve health outcomes through education, practice and service.”

McDonald earned her B.S. in biomedical sciences from Auburn University in 2016 before receiving her PharmD in 2020. She went on to complete a PGY-1 residency at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown in Columbus, Georgia in 2021 and stayed on to complete a PGY-2 Ambulatory Care residency in 2022.

“Accepting a position at Harrison College of Pharmacy feels like coming home and it is an incredible privilege to join the faculty at the institution that inspired and shaped my career,” said McDonald. “I am most excited about mentoring future pharmacists, collaborating with talented colleagues and giving back to a community that has had such a lasting impact on my life. I can't wait to contribute to the college's tradition of excellence and help prepare the next generation of pharmacy leaders.”

Prior to joining the HCOP faculty, she was a specialty clinical pharmacist in the Piedmont John B. Amos Cancer Center in Columbus, Georgia and she still maintains a practice at the site. The center offers comprehensive, multi-disciplinary oncology care to 14 counties around Columbus. McDonald works collaboratively with oncologists to initiate and manage patient chemotherapy regimens and side effect management. She also precepts students for introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences at the site.

Dr. McDonald is active in the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP), Network for Collaborative Oncology Development & Advancement (NCODA), and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
