Students receive T-shirt from Aubie during First 56 event

Auburn University is no stranger to high rankings. From recognition for strong academics to friendliest students and best student life, Auburn is known nationally for its campus environment and student experience. In fact, the university was recently ranked No. 1 nationally in the “happiest students” category as part of The Princeton Review’s annual “Best 390 Colleges” rankings list.

The Auburn Experience

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what makes the Plains so special but the phrase “Auburn experience” comes close. The unique Auburn experience connects generations of Auburn graduates and continues to draw new students.

Nearly 34,000 students recently poured onto Auburn’s campus — a new record and an increase of 2.6% over last year. This number also includes the largest amount of Alabama residents to date. Once students arrive on campus, Student Affairs is prepared to support them as they navigate every aspect of student life.

Research indicates the first eight weeks of the semester are critical in shaping students’ academic and social engagement, as well as overall retention. Auburn’s First 56 initiative is eight weeks of special programming and events to promote student engagement, healthy decision-making and academic achievement.

“Our goal is to get students engaged so they can find their own unique Auburn experience,” said Bobby Woodard, senior vice president for Student Affairs. “We know that once they do, they will thrive. The strategy behind First 56 is to ensure students not only have a good first few months on the Plains, but also a great four years.”

Student Affairs works diligently to identify resource needs and provide a holistic student experience, providing basic needs as well as opportunities to make meaningful connections, hone leadership skills and grow personally and professionally. From housing and dining to counseling and wellness, student activities and leadership development, Student Affairs oversees a range of programs and services on Auburn’s campus.

The Auburn Family’s generosity makes many of these programs and initiatives possible. Through their giving, donors are helping to create a nurturing and vibrant campus environment where students can excel, grow and make the most of their time at Auburn.

Donor support ensures the Campus Food Pantry shelves stay stocked, student veterans have much-needed technology, emergency funds are available for students in crisis, adequate space is available for counseling services, and more.

Student Affairs, with support from the Auburn Family, works to create a dynamic and supportive environment for students, ensuring their outside-the-classroom experience is just as life-changing as the one inside the classroom.

“We know how special Auburn is and once students and families visit and see it for themselves, they’re hooked,” Woodard said. “That’s the power of the Auburn experience. And that’s due in large part to the Auburn Family’s dedication to current and future generations of students.”
