The Auburn University Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (Biggio Center) fosters faculty learning communities that support collaboration and growth. Among these, the Womens Leadership Community provides a dedicated space for faculty and administrators to explore the unique challenges and opportunities in academia. Designed for women leaders, this vibrant community encourages open dialogue, shared experiences and professional development in a supportive environment.
Participants engage in meaningful conversations that spark insight and connection. These gatherings, led by Liesl Reiners, are more than just networking — they are opportunities to uncover leadership strategies, exchange perspectives and develop solutions tailored to Auburn’s academic environment.
“My favorite aspects are the sense of community we build, the unwavering support participants receive and the rich educational opportunities we share,” said Reiners, faculty developer for the Biggio Center. “It’s a space where support, advice and mentorship flourish, empowering each member to thrive.”
One of the key benefits of the Women’s Leadership Community is its ability to foster insights that reshape how participants approach partnership. Faculty members from diverse disciplines come together to navigate common challenges and celebrate successes, strengthening the collective voice of women leaders at Auburn.
“Being part of the Womens Leadership Community has had a great impact on me,” said Iulia Pittman, professor of world languages, literatures and cultures. “I met many wonderful women from units I normally don’t interact with. I appreciate the open and supportive atmosphere at the meetings and the opportunities for collaboration and exchange of ideas and experiences. Being part of this group led to many opportunities for collaboration and growth.”
Participants leave each session not only with new ideas but also a stronger sense of community and empowerment.
“The Womens Leadership Community has helped me connect with colleagues across campus and has inspired me to seek out more leadership opportunities,” said Rachel Prado, senior lecturer, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Biggio Faculty Fellow. “The group's support was the catalyst for my decision to run for the University Senate Secretary-elect position!”
For those interested in joining, the Women’s Leadership Community welcomes all faculty and administrators. Whether you’re an experienced leader or just beginning your journey, these gatherings offer valuable insights and support to help you thrive in your role.
